Nathalie Gribinski’s work is full of energy, color, and emotion. Born in Algiers and raised in Paris, she originally trained in law before changing course and moving to Chicago, where she earned a degree in graphic design. That shift marked the beginning of her life as an artist.
Though self-taught, her work shows the influence of design principles and a love for artists like Van Gogh, Miró, and Kandinsky. Her style blends abstract expressionism with surrealist touches, often leaning into bold lines and imaginative forms. One of her best-known series, “Tourlicoulis,” is playful and full of movement. It drew the attention of Christine Ruiz Picasso, which proved to be a turning point in her career.
Gribinski works in a range of media, including ink, watercolor, gouache, and acrylic. She has shown her art in both France and the United States and has gained recognition beyond national borders. During the pandemic, she created a new body of work centered on fantastical animals, which was eventually published as a book.
Her work is shaped by memory, curiosity, and a mix of cultural influences. It continues to grow and shift, but always keeps its sense of joy and freedom.
